Battle Gameplay
Official website for the DreamSim indie game project by SUPER NH.
So what are battles in DreamSim all about?
DreamSim utalizes turn based RPG battles mixed with unique mechanics and gameplay inspired by other game genres!Whenever you get into battle with an enemy, you need to form a team of 4 "dreamers" (players) to fight it (teams always include Ina cause she's the main character)!I'd like to mention that not everything will be covered here at this moment (example: SPAB), and that not everything is finalized yet, so take what's written here with a grain of salt. The images are for preview only and are not actual game footage. They're display of current battle and deisgn concepts.
Battle Options and Stats
ATTACK - 1 chosen dreamer can attack the enemy 3 hits. After that it switches to the enemy's turn.
SPAB (short form term) - Currently not public info. Will be public in the game demo (it is important though).
ITEM - Gives access to inventory where in that player turn you can use 1 healing item (like healing MOOD and STAMINA) or 1 buff item (DAMAGE and RESISTANCE) or one both. Only 1 item can be used in a turn and it takes the whole turn away.
QUIT - Let's you quit the battle. Each night you get logged into DreamSim you have 5 opportunities to quit battles. It isn't called "run" cause enemies aren't systemized to run after you lol.
MOOD - Replacement of HP for dreamers. Whenever a dreamer gets hit by an insult, they lose MOOD points. If their MOOD reaches 0 they're down and unplayable (can be still treated with healing items) unless their MOOD gets boosted up. If the whole party's MOOD is at 0 you lose the battle.
STAMINA - Determines how much a dreamer can attack. Every hit a dreamer deals causes specific amounts of stamina to be taken off. The amount is determined by how much damage is dealt. When a dreamer is out of/ low on stamina they cannot attack till they have enough for their attack requirments. But don't worry, every turn (yes also enemy turns) a small amount of stamina gets regenerated for all dreamers in battle.
ENEMY HP - Regular health bar. Once it's at 0 you win the battle.
PW (POWER) - Currently not public info. Will be public in the game demo.
Attacking states
AVAILABLE - Dreamer is whilling and able to attack.
UNSTABLE - Dreamer is under an enemy or outside effect that causes attacking for them to be harder or unstable in that turn (both realistically and in gameplay).
DOWN - Dreamer has 0 MOOD and cannot attack.
LOW STAMINA - Dreamer does not have enough stamina for their minimmum attacking requirments in that turn.
(There might be another mode but it is not fully decided yet weather it'll be part of the game or not.)
Player Attacking Gameplay
The player attacking gameplay in DreamSim (currently) is very similar to and inspired by rythm games. The balls move from right to left in order of upwards to downwards. The first ball deals 75% of original DMG, second 100% and third 125%.
To deal DMG in each row, you need to hit [SPACE] when the ball is over the white ring perfectly enough. If it only reaches the sides (two small lines around the rings) you only hit 25% of what you we're meant to hit. If the ball is hit too quickly or is beyond the ring territory, you miss the hit. If you miss all 3 rings and their territories you do 0 DMG but lose no stamina.
Attacks are planned to have cool visuals paired with them, for example of Ina punching the enemy if she hits the rings).
Item Buff / Healing Criterias
Blue Heart - MOOD increase
Orange Plus - Stamina increase
Red Fist - DMG increase
Purple Shield - Resistance increase (makes chosen dreamers recieve less DMG when hit by enemy attacks like usual "defense")
Enemy Insult Gameplay
When it's the enemy's turn, you get sent to a sort of shooter screen, where the enemy picks random dreamers and shoots insults at them. The amount of insults shot and amount of different targets is usually also randomised but with a minimum and maximum scale (every enemy turn, at least 2 dreamers are shot at).
To dodge insults, you need to shoot words back with the targetted dreamer before they hit them (the white line above them).
To shoot you need to use the right and left arrow keys to switch between dreamers and hit [SPACE] to shoot when you're locked on the targetted dreamer.
